Members of Congress are contemplating some major immigration reform. According to the New York Times, one of the things that a bipartisan group of Senators is proposing to eliminate are visas available to brothers and sisters of United States citizens.

Filing an I-130 Petition is like saving your place in a very long line. Your position in that line is determined by the date you file your petition, which is also known as the “priority date.” Individuals who are already in line will continue to wait until their priority dates become current and they have moved to the front of the line.
If this proposal becomes law, brothers and sisters of United States citizens will no longer be able to get into line to come immigrate to the U.S. They would need to find another route.
